values
i believe that clients feel safer and braver when they have transparency around their therapists values. i would like to tell you about mine.
some of my identities include: white, lesbian, cis-gender women. i want to acknowledge that within the therapeutic relationship there are inherent power dynamics, i want to create a space that lowers these dynamics, and i believe this is best done my acknowledging and talking about it. i want my clients to know that i stand with them not against them. i work towards anti-racism and inclusivity by who i vote for, where is spend my money, time and energy, and what i advocate for.
i actively work to learn and unlearn what the systems in the u.s. have thought me. this looks like me continuing to do my own therapy, looking at my own bias and working towards unlearning. i believe that feedback is a powerful gift. additionally, i obtain supervision each week to work thought and process how to best support my clients. furthermore, my goal in obtaining more education is focused on expanding my knowledge of multicultural counseling and social justice advocacy.
